Gitch/Denfeld Midfielder to play for Icehawks

Owen Wilcox, a longtime GGSC player and midfielder for Denfeld has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Lake Superior College Icehawks.

Icehawks head coach Anthony Wood says he's, "excited to get a player of his ability to LSC.  Anytime we can keep local kids home that are going to help our program is huge.  Hopefully we can continue to build relationships and be a strong option for local kids in the future."

Denfeld coach Scott Anderson had this to say, "Owen has been quite good for our program.  With a career 5 goals and 9 assists over 2 varsity seasons, he may not have been in the media spotlight; rather, he was often the 2nd or 3rd assist and perhaps overlooked by opponents.  He had a knack for seeing the game and moving to the right spot at the right time as witnessed in his qtr. final playoff-winning goal over CEC.  He also was named All-Lake Superior Conference, and a Duluth Area Senior All Star.   LSC is lucky to get him."

His Gitch coach, Matt Nevanen added, "As Owen's coach for many years at Gitchi Gummi I saw how he was able to develop his ability through his time at the club. Owen is a technically skilled, creative player who understands the game, sees the field well and is an excellent passer of the ball.  I'm looking forward to seeing him make the next step in his playing career at LSC."

Best of luck from us at Gitchi Gummi, Owen!
